If you're parking in New York City, officials from the Department of Transportation are warning drivers to be on the lookout for phony QR code stickers that have been found on New York City parking meters.

DOT officials say it's a scam that tries to trick people into paying by using the QR code rather than feeding money into the meter.

Once you scan the code, it takes you to a third-party website where you are asked for credit card information and you end up having your money stolen.

DOT officials say the only way to pay for metered parking in New York City is through the official Park NYC app or on a physical Park NYC parking meter.

All meters are now being checked for the fake QR code stickers, but if you see one, you’re asked to report it to the police. If you think you might have used one of the fake codes, let your bank and credit card company know immediately.

So far there’s been no word of these fake stickers on meters in the Hudson Valley.
