A deadly accident took place in Flatbush at the corner of Tilden and Bedford Avenues, where a dump truck struck and killed a 58-year-old woman.
Surveillance video shows Maria Piovanetti, 58, entering the crosswalk on Thursday morning and an approaching dump truck that was slowing down. Right before Piovanetti clears the vehicle, the truck makes a right turn and runs her over.
Police say Piovanetti lived at an extended-stay housing facility that works to get tenants permanent housing.
“We saw that it’s a red dump truck that goes to our site and hauls dirt,” said Ed Clermont, who works at one of two construction sites on Tilden Avenue. “I went looking for the truck and couldn't find it."
According to police, the dump truck from that fatal scene is the same truck that struck and killed a crossing guard in Queens in October of last year. Clermont provided News 12 with the surveillance video from that October crash, and it looks all too similar – the same truck making a turn, the victim nearly clearing the truck, and then the truck striking them.
"It's a very hard and short person; you cannot see them over the hood when they're close to the truck,” said Clermont. “Last night, I was sitting at the light waiting to go home, and I looked at the ground, thinking of her lying there. It's so sad."
Police have yet to make any arrests and they say the investigation is ongoing.
