An East New York family is demanding answers after their 24-year-old loved one died during childbirth at Woodhull Hospital on Sept. 15.
Bevorlin Garcia-Barrios' family says she was not feeling well on Sept. 12, but the medical staff told her to go home, and she would be OK.
Three days later, she died during an emergency C-section.
“It doesn’t make sense," said Nelson Ramirez, boyfriend of Garcia-Barrios. "You [doctors] are going to college for something, you became a professional and you’re bad at your job. Everybody is acting like it’s normal.”
City health records show that Black women are more than four times likely to die from childbirth complications than white women in New York.
News 12 reached out to Woodhull Hospital for comment on Thursday and followed up on Friday afternoon but has not heard back.
