Drivers from all over the world gathered Friday in Red Hook to prepare for an auto race that uses only electric-powered cars.
The Formula E Championship is set to take place Saturday at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, where 10 teams and 20 drivers face off for the title.
The drivers will strap into their single-seat electric engines and navigate a 14-turn circuit around Pier 11 and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, all while just inches away from each other.
Each car has the same battery, but every team uses different software to recharge the batteries.
Formula E has also announced that it’s giving away 1,000 free tickets to community members at five different locations around Brooklyn, including the Red Hook Library.
