Emaciated dog rescued from vacant Bronx apartment dies
An abandoned dog found emaciated and extremely malnourished was rescued from a vacant Bronx apartment, police say.
But as she was being prepared for surgery, she died.
The female pit bull terrier named Precious was found on Feb. 1 living inside 3046 Holland Ave.
According to police, a boy gave Precious to a family who was living at the location and he went to check on her.
However, he told police when he got to the apartment, the unit was completely vacant because the tenants had moved.
Precious was left with no food or water for at least a month.
Staff at the animal hospital say she was one of the worst malnourishment cases they've seen there.
The NYPD's Animal Cruelty Unit is investigating the case.
