German Doner Kebab opened its first all-electric kiosk in the United States at Columbus Park, outside of Brooklyn Borough Hall.
The ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting with staff from the UK food chain, city officials and local representatives.
"We have tried and tested electric in the United Kingdom," Nigel Belton, the U.S. managing director for German Doner Kebab, said. "We're pretty excited about it because we all know that's the route to go in the future."
The kiosk was renovated at a cost of $500,000 and was previously closed.  The appliances are all electric and the Belton said the kiosk is connected into the city's electric grid.
The effort was also to help spruce up Columbus Park. It was also done to provide more food options for those visiting and living in Downtown Brooklyn.
"The opening of German doner kebab, here today, this past week," Lincoln Restler, the New York City councilmember representing the area, said, "is an incredibly important development that will add to the dynamism of the community."
Belton said the food chain has a new location under construction in Bay Ridge. He added it will also be all-electric but did not say  when it will open.
