EMT union president says many city EMS members are resigning due to safety concerns

Five months ago, Mayor Eric Adams signed a bill into law that was unanimously passed by City Council, legally requiring the FDNY to provide EMS workers with bulletproof vests and self-defense training.

The president of FDNY EMS Local 2507, which represents many EMS workers throughout NYC, says violence against city's first responders is on the rise.
Oren Barzilay says he’s been told of at least three incidents just this weekend in the Bronx where EMS workers were targeted.
Five months ago, Mayor Eric Adams signed a bill into law that was unanimously passed by City Council, legally requiring the FDNY to provide EMS workers with bulletproof vests and self-defense training.
FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker released the following statement:
“The safety of all of our members is my top priority. We have zero tolerance for violence against our EMTs, Paramedics and EMS officers.”
