Estella Diggs honored with street sign unveiling in Morrisania

Estella Diggs Democratic Club members also attended and spoke about Diggs' achievements and how her contributions continue to inspire today.

District 79 residents, community members and the family of the late Estella Diggs gathered on the corner 167th Street and St. Augstine's Way of in Morrisania on Sunday to honor the community leader.
Estella Diggs Democratic Club members also attended and spoke about Diggs' achievements and how her contributions continue to inspire today.
"She's a complete inspiration," said Shekera Algarin, an Estella Diggs Democratic Club Member. "It's so fantastic to see women of color who have made such an impact on the community and whose legacy actually lives on."
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson and District 16 Bronx Council Member Althea Stevens also attended and honored Diggs with a declaration of proclamation. Diggs' family came together and accepted the prestigious award on her behalf.
"I think it's a blessing that her legacy lives on, and how she inspired not only her own generation, but generations to come," said Janet Diggs, Estella Diggs' family member.
To continue the efforts of Diggs' legacy, her family encouraged the community to use their voting rights and always move forward with people in mind.
"Today we have family from the Estella B. Diggs herself, the club, that are engaging in civic duty, [and] voter registration," said Elvis. L. Santana, State Committe Member of the 79th Assembly District. "[They're] making sure that [they] help everyone in the streets and then bring them back home to be civically engaged."
A birthday reception for Estella Diggs followed the street sign unveiling at Estella Diggs Park on East 167th Street with community members in tow.
