A former after-school counselor at a Fordham Heights middle school was sentenced Monday for sexually abusing a student.

Michael Jenkins was sentenced to two years in prison with 10 years of post-release supervision.

Jenkins worked as an after-school counselor at Angelo Parti Middle School. He pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree criminal sexual act after investigators say he raped a female student in December of last year.

Prosecutors say Jenkins had texted the then-13-year-old girl to tell her to come to his home.

Investigators built their case around phone messages exchanged between the victim and Jenkins, who reportedly confessed to her about his fears of getting caught.

Jenkins' family shouted at reporters after they left court on Monday. During his sentencing, they cried and shouted messages to Jenkins as he was led away by court officers, telling him, "We love you," and "Stay strong."
