A 3-year-old girl who was injured in a Williamsbridge hit-and-run is now home from the hospital while a 60-year-old man faces charges in the incident.
Mariel Rojas said her daughter, Mylah, spent four days in the ICU and suffered a fractured skull, brain bleeding, a swollen eye and a gash on her forehead.
“I’m grateful to see her walking, talking to me,” said Rojas, who spoke exclusively to News 12 about her daughter’s recovery. “I’m just happy and grateful.”
“I just remember [my daughter] laying there and walking towards me,” said Rojas. “[Mylah] got up and she walked towards me.”
Police said the incident happened on Holland Avenue near Burke Avenue on Nov. 29.
Investigators said 60-year-old Anthony Martinez was arrested on Thursday.
Martinez faces several charges, including reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.
“I’m relieved, but it’s not a solution,” said Rojas.
The mother is calling for stricter safety measures.
“There are so many scooters in the street, that my concern is when would it happen again?” said Rojas.
Rojas told News 12 that she is testifying Monday, which is Martinez’s scheduled court appearance.
“Thankfully my daughter’s here,” said Rojas. “She’s alive, but it could’ve been another story.”
