A 15-year-old’s usual walk to school is interrupted by a would-be robber who is still on the loose in this News 12 exclusive story.
Henry and his family have lived near Pelham Parkway for years, and the high school sophomore walks to the nearby five-train station to get to school. On April 2 at around 7 a.m., Henry says a man he’s never met before approached him, grabbed the teen, and demanded money.
Security footage from a neighbor’s home shows Henry running from the suspect who chases him across the street and wrestles him to the ground. The teen told me that eventually the man gave up and let him go, and Henry actually continued on to school! Once his school found out what happened, the police and Henry’s parents were alerted.
His family said it’s scary to think that something like that could happen in broad daylight and so close to home. The man is not someone Henry said he recognized from the neighborhood, which is just down a few blocks away from NYC Health & Hospitals Jacobi.
“Obviously, this man was troubled. He could have punched him. He could have stabbed him. He could have gotten hit by a car running,” said his mother, Liz, who’s lived in the area for more than 10 years. “[Henry] wasn’t anywhere he shouldn’t have been. He was walking down Pelham Parkway to the 5-train.”
Henry is not the only teen victim in The Bronx. Police reported that a 14-year-old boy was robbed by two individuals on April 23 during after school hours in front of 1421 Watson Avenue.
Police say they are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
