Exclusive: Police dog attacks bystander at funeral for slain NYPD Detective

Suffolk police tell News 12 that the door to a police vehicle opened and the dog was able to get out during the service.

A police dog attacked a person just steps away from the funeral procession of Detective Didarul Islam.

News 12 has learned that a K-9 from the Suffolk County Police Department escaped and attacked someone during the funeral for Islam in The Bronx.

Suffolk police tell News 12 that the door to a police vehicle opened and the dog was able to get out during the service.

That is when the dog attacked a bystander.

The dog's handler and another officer quickly ripped the dog off the man.

Suffolk police tell News 12 that the person sustained a scratch and the dog is OK. News 12 is waiting to hear back from the NYPD on if it is also investigating.
