Riverdale neighbors say this weekend they woke up to what appeared to be a parking violation ticket on their car window – but turned out to be something else.
"All of a sudden, I grabbed it and I saw it was a flyer for a barber shop," said driver Mike McCormick.
The flyers were printed and put on top of car windows by a new barbershop and salon in the neighborhood named A&R Master. The new business has been in the area for one month.
Neighbors told News 12 they did not appreciate the company's marketing strategy.
"That’s disgusting...the people who process this flyer should get a ticket," said Paul Caldwell, another resident.
A co-owner of A&R Master told News 12 in a statement, "I apologize to the Riverdale community for what happened with the flyers. We didn’t see proper guidance and were unaware that it was illegal. We didn’t come to this community to do wrong."
Despite the failed marketing efforts from the new business, another neighbor said they would still visit the shop.
"I might need a touch-up, so yeah, I might have to visit them," said Efrain.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Finance and the NYPD for comment and is waiting for a response.
