As tax season approaches, experts offer Bronx residents tips to ensure they don?t fall victim to Internet scammers.Phishing is the practice Internet bandits use who send unsuspecting emails to trick people into revealing personal and financial information. Experts say at this time of year, scammers send phony emails claiming to be part of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The fake emails offer tax refunds in exchange for information.Finance Committee Chairman David Weprin says simply opening some of these emails can make some computer information vulnerable. IRS officials say they will never initiate tax discussions over email, therefore, all such emails claiming to be from the IRS are phony.
