Fairfield police are reminding the public to keep their mail safe from theft during the holiday season.
Police say there have been six reported cases of mail theft over the past few months in Fairfield.
They say incidents have included checks being taken from mailboxes of residential houses.
Police say thieves will find a check, wash it, alter it and then fraudulently cash it or deposit it.
They say if you want to be safe, use the Postal Service to mail checks or the blue mailboxes throughout town.
Police say the six incidents of mail theft were scattered throughout town and it's too early to tell if the crimes are connected.
