A massive tree branch came crashing down in Pelham Gardens on Sunday, blocking neighbors from their home and leaving a mess in the street for nearly 24 hours.
After repeated 311 calls, the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation came by to clear out the branches and debris left behind late Monday morning. Part of the branch landed on a parked car, crushing the windshield. Neighbors on Westervelt Avenue say it’s not the first time this has happened.
“See, all the trees are still damaged. They have a big hole in this tree. It is very scary,” said Mahmood Tayyab, whose yard the branch landed in.
He says his kids were outside playing when this happened and could have been hurt.
“I'm very, very worried about it because sometimes kids are playing and they're sleeping in the nighttime, it's so windy. [It’s] always scary,” he said.
Another neighbor told News 12 that although the area had been cleaned up, the power and service in his home was still not working due to the branch landing on some high-up cable wires.
