Family and friends of a Bronx man who was fatally stabbed over the weekend are crying for justice and begging for the suspect who was arrested to be charged with murder.
A memorial was held outside of 1115 College Ave. to remember 40-year-old Anthony Nieves, the Navy veteran and family man outside of his childhood home.
Nieves was fatally stabbed in the torso on Friday evening. He was found in the vestibule of his apartment building and was later pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln.
Police sources say Nieves was seen on camera in the vicinity of Bergen Avenue and East 148th Street walking to a check-cashing place.
The family says that’s where an altercation started and continued to the corner. He was then followed to his apartment building at 418 East 148th Street.
On Sunday, 54-year-old Rupert Allen was arrested and charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, but the family says they want the charges upgraded and Allen back in jail.
Sarah Pinto, who lost her other son to a hit-and-run two years ago, says the funeral for Nieves will be Nov. 13.
She says she will continue to fight for justice.
