The loved ones of Angellyh Yambo shared an emotional moment on Monday as they mourned the loss of her life on the two-year anniversary of her death.
Angellyh Yambo, 16, was shot and killed by a stray bullet while walking home from school in 2022. Yambo’s family commemorated her life by releasing monarch butterflies into the sky in her memory. One of those butterflies refused to fly off, resting on Yambo’s grave.
Yambo’s family started the Angellyh Yambo foundation in her honor to aid in the ongoing fight against gun violence. They say they recently held a gun violence summit at Gracie Mansion alongside Mayor Adams and will hold similar events in the future.
