It’s been seven months since Brooklyn resident Ronald Anthony Smith was fatally struck by an NYPD van, and his family continues to demand justice be brought in his case.
Smith’s sister and brother stood outside of the Civilian Complaint Review Board’s building on Monday, saying they are prepared to sue the city in the case of their late brother.
The incident took place on Eastern Parkway when he was struck in the incident. The family is calling on Mayor Eric Adams, the CCRB, and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell to release the police body camera footage to the public and have the officers involved in the accident terminated.
“The way they treated me was very hurtful, I’ve never experienced this and these people are supposed to be helping me,” said Julie Floyd, Smith’s sister, of her experience with the CCRB since Smith’s death. “The officers involved need to be fired, and I don't know if they're on the street now or what they're doing… they get to go home to their brother. I don't get to go home to mine.”
The family’s lawyer says they have filed official requests to get the police body cam footage released to the public.
The NYPD tells News 12 that this incident remains under investigation.
