The family of 44-year-old Keon Gill, who was shot and killed in Kingsbridge early Sunday morning, is remember his life.
The Gill family tells News 12 he was celebrating his 44th birthday at a local bar at West 242 Street and Broadway on Saturday night.
He was accompanied by his brother, Luis, and a few friends.
News 12 was told the party ended just before 3 a.m. on Sunday and they left.
Police said multiple shots were fired, and Keon Gill was fatally shot in the chest. His brother was shot in the leg. Keon Gill leaves behind five children.
No arrests have been made.
News 12 spoke exclusively with Michele Weissman, Gill's girlfriend of 17 years. She said the incident was a case of wrong place, wrong time.
Weissman described Gill as a dedicated father and a genuine soul. She said she doesn't want the tragedy to overshadow his legacy.
"I want people to remember him for the kind of kind-hearted, compassionate... most generous person you will ever meet. He would give the shirt off his back for you," said Weissman.
