Family says Williamsbridge apartment fire is forcing them out
A Bronx Boulevard family says the aftermath of a fire that destroyed their neighbor's home is forcing them out of theirs.
The fire ripped through an upstairs apartment, but the Lazama family -- whose apartment is underneath -- says water is leaking from their roof and mold is growing on the walls.
The family says they're hoping for relocation but their pleas have not been answered.
The family was offered housing for one night, according to the Red Cross.
News 12 is told that a New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development inspector has recommended that the apartment be vacated. That move is pending approval from a supervisor and is expected to happen Tuesday.
The mother and father who live in the apartment have three kids, two of which they say have asthma.
The family says they have a temporary place to say, but they want a long-term solution to the problem.
