One person has died after an apartment building in East New York went up in flames Wednesday night, according to the FDNY.
The fire department says one person was rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The fire broke out on the first floor of the three-story building on Montauk Avenue. Residents say that the smoke alarms in the building did not go off at the time of the fire.
The FDNY says it took 60 firefighters to get the blaze under control. According to the Department of Buildings website, the fire started in Apartment 1A.
Neighbors say the victim was an older woman. FDNY has yet to determine the cause of the fire.
