An apartment fire left an 85-year-old man dead and several others hurt Friday night in Highbridge.

The FDNY says it began around 9:30 p.m. on the first floor of the building between Jesup and Shakespeare avenues.

At least 10 people were injured, including a 45-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman who were hospitalized.

Crews extinguished the fire just before 11 p.m., according to officials.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
