A 14-year-old girl was treated for a gunshot wound to her face early Sunday morning in Morrisania.

Police told News 12 that officers responded to a call of gunshots fired within a NYCHA development at 715 East 161st Street just before 5:30 a.m.

According to police, they found a 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her right cheek.

Some neighbors in the area say they were awoken by what sounded like firework before hearing multiple people screaming.

"I just heard a couple of scattered shootings going around," says Brianny Nunez, a local resident. "There were a couple of people screaming but I didn't know exactly what was going on."

Police told News 12 that the teen was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where she remains in stable condition.

No arrests have been made. Details surrounding what led up to the shooting were not made available as of Sunday night.
