Firefighters were on the scene of a fatal fire that broke out at a Kingsbridge Heights apartment building Monday morning.

Smoke could be seen billowing from a second-floor apartment on Webb Avenue at around 11 a.m.

An FDNY official confirmed to News 12 that one woman has died and another person was taken to a hospital. Their identifies have not yet been released.

Firefighters say all the other residents in the building will soon be allowed back into their apartments.

It was not immediately clear how the fire began. Its cause is under investigation.
