The FDNY is encouraging residents Saturday to change the batteries on their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms before daylight savings.
They're giving out 100,000 free batteries citywide.
Firefighters set up booths at the 149th Street Grand Concourse Station and by the Metropolitan Avenue Parkchester station.
Officials warn that 46 people from New York Ctiy have died in fires this year because their smoke alarms weren't working.
The FDNY also suggests to invest in a newer combination alarm for each level of your home with batteries that can last up to 10 years.
