The FDNY held its annual Medal Day ceremony this morning to remember the legacy of two fallen Long Islanders.

The Captain Alison Russo North Star was awarded to Capt. Edgar Baez. Baez was honored for his leadership when Russo was stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack in Queens. Alison Russo, of Huntington, was an FDNY EMS lieutenant who was posthumously promoted to captain.

The William P. Moon II Medal of Life went to Kristin Moon. She's the wife of FDNY and Islip volunteer firefighter Billy Moon who died in December as the result of a training exercise in Brooklyn.
