A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after the police say he was pulled out of the water conscious at Orchard Beach.
The FDNY confirmed they responded around 4 p.m. and rushed the man to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition for further evaluation.
Despite the incident, residents were still at the beach enjoying their day.
Beachgoers told News 12 that the beach was well staffed with lifeguards. Others said they are taking their own precautions amid the lifeguard shortage.
NYC Parks tells News 12 that the 66-year-old man was swimming in the lifeguard section of the beach, not the section that is red flagged.
