MS-13 has become synonymous with gang terror on Long Island. Today, one of the gang’s highest ranking alleged members was in a Long Island courtroom facing terrorism charges.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Elmer Canales-Rivera is second in command on MS-13’s international governing body, known as the “Ranfla Nacional.”

Authorities say the gang’s leadership oversaw horrific crimes, including more than 65 murders in our area.

As News 12 has reported, MS-13 is responsible for a long list of murders, including the killings of high school teenagers Nissa Mickens and Kayla Cuevas, as well as the murders of four teenage boys in Central Islip.

Canales-Rivera could face life in prison if convicted. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
