The wait is officially over for Greenpoint residents, as ferry service at Greenpoint Landing is up and running.
Brooklyn residents have been waiting nearly a year and a half to see the reopening of this landing. The closure of Greenpoint Landing in May of 2021 was a shock to many.
Lendlease, the global company that owns the waterfront land, said the pier would only be closed for a few months for needed repairs, then pushing it back to reopen in May of 2022.
In October, the company announced that the work was completed and that ferry service would be good to continue at the landing, much to the excitement of the city’s Economic Development Corporation, who said they “appreciate the patience of Greenpointers, and all NYC Ferry riders, as we worked with Lendlease to safely restore the landing.”
One Greenpoint resident who visits her mother in NYU Langone says the ferry’s return is great news.
“I can take the ferry and just walk right there...this is a great way to get there rather than taking the subway and a bus,” said Maureen Hunt. “It's going to be very convenient for everybody, it's very good for the neighborhood.”
The NYC Ferry has released an updated schedule for its East River route that now includes the Greenpoint stop.
