Police are searching for the fiance of a woman who was brutally murdered Thursday night.
On Friday Darryl Gibbs, 50, was named a suspect in the murder his fiancee, Wanda Martin.
Close friends say that Martin celebrated her 53rd birthday on Wednesday and was looking forward to getting married. A day later, Martin's body was found by police.
Martin was stabbed and beaten over the head Thursday night inside her sixth-floor apartment building in Mott Haven.
A friend of Martin says that she got a frantic call from Gibbs' niece just hours before Martin's body was found. She claimed Gibbs told his mother that he was going to kill himself and Martin.
Friends say Martin's two adult children are now trying to stay strong for her six adoptive children, the youngest of whom is just 9 years old.
Anyone with information that can help police find Darryl Gibbs is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
