It was a particularly tough holiday season for loved ones of James Solano – the 16-year-old who was fatally shot in the Bronx just two days before Christmas.
The shooting on Boston Road in front of a bodega was caught on surveillance video. Solano was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.
Five days later, police arrested Marquis Beckford, 22, of the Bronx. He is facing charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
On Saturday, Morrisiana residents gathered to remember Solano and denounce gun violence, including the underground fight club “Rumble in the Bronx.” They say people should put the guns down and pick the gloves up.
