Final preparations underway at Board of Elections ahead of Early Voting on Saturday

Thousands of voter machines, filled with millions of ballots, are rolling out from Board of Elections machine storage to 1,211 voting locations and 155 early voting locations.

The machines come equipped with onboard storage to read and process the paper ballot, that this year has state, federal and local races along with six ballot measures.

The results are then recorded on two separate hard drives - one released on the day of as part of the unofficial results, while the second remains in the election boxes and receives a police escort back to the five warehouses throughout the city for voting certification.

This year, the BOE tells News 12 that absentee ballots are down, which could mean a surge of in-person voting, and long lines on Election Day.

Instead, they are urging New Yorkers to take advantage of expanded early voting hours, beginning on the Oct. 26 to ensure a smoother process for voters and election workers.

"Be the master of your own destiny, you don't want to vote at your last chance which is 9 p.m. On Election Day, we have more time than ever before to vote early, and go about your day," said BOE executive director Michael J Ryan.

Ryan also confirms to News 12 that this year, they will be offering special "Early Voting" and "Voting on Halloween" stickers for those who choose to cast their ballots early.
