Fire officials: 9 firefighters injured in 5-alarm Queens fire

The fire erupted at a building on 59th Street and spread to four others last night.

The FDNY says a massive five-alarm fire in Queens left nine firefighters injured Tuesday night.
According to police, the fire erupted near 59th Street at around 9:45 p.m. Fire officials say the fire tore through a private dwelling and later spread to four other buildings.
Over 200 hundred EMS and fire personnel were needed to contain the flames.
Fire officials say each building affected has seen extensive damage. The nine firefighters who were injured are expected to be OK.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
