After 53 years with the FDNY, Commissioner Daniel Nigro is retiring. Officials who have worked alongside him gave a standing ovation as he walked out of the FDNY office for the last time.

Wednesday marked the end of an era for one of New York's Bravest.
After 53 years with the FDNY, Commissioner Daniel Nigro is retiring. Officials who have worked alongside him gave a standing ovation as he walked out of the FDNY office for the last time.
Being a part of the fire department was nothing new to him, as his father was also an FDNY captain. One former colleague also told News 12 Nigro's commitment to the fire department was unprecedented.
Nigro was appointed as a firefighter in 1969. He is said to be the sixth individual in history to hold every rank in the FDNY.
