Fireworks were set off in two area malls Saturday afternoon, making shoppers believe there were active shooters.
Neighbors to the Mall at Bay Plaza say they thought they heard gunshots coming from the mall around 2 p.m. Saturday.
Shoppers learned from a Citizen App that it was fireworks, not gunfire, and that the mall was safe.
A similar incident happened at the Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn.
Police told News 12 that a child had set off fireworks inside the mall.
The recent string of mass shootings across the country has put people on high alert.
It is not yet known if the two incidents are related.
