The Fordham Business Improvement District rolled out a series of grants to keep businesses safe in what many call one of the busiest hubs in the Bronx.
Kid City along Fordham Road is one of 10 businesses to receive the grant. Last spring, multiple businesses were robbed in the area, one of them a jewelry store just a block away.
"Upgraded our camera systems, our social security systems and we've had several of our people be trained with security through the bid," said Kid City District Manager Mario Degiorgio.
Money from Verizon and Fordham University made it possible, but in order to qualify for the grant, businesses first had to complete a de-escalation training and an NYPD security survey.
"It gave us assurance that we're doing everything we can to keep the store, my employees safe, our customers safe.," said Degiorgio.
