Police have released photos of two men they say shot a bodega worker in Fordham. It happened on Webester Avenue and East 183rd Street just before noon on Wednesday.
Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows the victim collapse on the sidewalk as two men get into a car and drive away. The victim laid in the street as bystanders ran to his aid. Police say the victim was shot in the torso and rushed to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.
The United Bodegas of America identified the victim as Joseph Lewis, an employee at Moe's Gourmet Deli.
Hours after the incident, the UBA held a press conference outside of the bodega. According to UBA, a confrontation started in the store after one of the suspects made a mess. The dispute led out onto the sidewalk, when one of the suspects grabbed a handgun from his car.
The UBA is now calling on the city to bring back stop-and-frisk.
"This is not about racial profiling, you know, and everyone knows we are not about race, we are about public safety, we are about how do we get home safely at the end of our tour," said Fernando Mateo, United Bodegas of America.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
