A Bronx university honored Native American Heritage Month and hosted its second annual Native American Festival Saturday.
Organizers at Fordham University invited tribes from around the nation to share their heritage with the neighborhood and the Fordham community.
Guests were welcomed to participate in a Native American Pow Wow, a ceremony featuring food, song and dance.
Organizers say the goal of the festival is to bring Native Americans back to the Bronx.
“Native Americans have fought in every war on the side of the United States, occasionally against, but mostly for, ever since the Revolutionary War,” says event coordinator Bobby Gonzalez. “But, what's amazing is --we're approaching Veterans Day -- for many years they were not American citizens but would enlist, fight and sometimes die for this country. And, that's really astounding.”
