The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says forecasters are predicting a less active hurricane this season, but local officials are still advising people to be cautious.
The hurricane season runs from June to November.
Michele DeLuca, of Norwalk Emergency Management, says from mid-September through October is the most active part of the season, with which she's most concerned.
Meteorologists say cooler temperatures and faster winds this year in the Atlantic Ocean are preventing some hurricanes from forming.
DeLuca says though fewer hurricanes may be predicted this year, a significant storm could still impact the area. She says it's still important for people to be prepared.
Superstorm Sandy caused extensive damage when it hit Connecticut in October 2012.
