The tri-state football community is mourning the sudden death of former New Rochelle football standout and Monmouth University coach Lou DiRienzo Jr.

DiRienzo died last weekend at the age of 34.

The Yonkers native was an All-County and All-State player at New Rochelle High School, where he played for his father, legendary coach Lou DiRienzo Sr.

DiRienzo was preparing to begin his second season as a defensive coach with the Monmouth University football program in New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife and twin daughters.

Wake services are scheduled for Thursday in Eastchester.

A funeral will be held Friday at Assumption of Our Lady Church in Tuckahoe.
