A former Rikers Island corrections officer has been sentenced for falsifying claiming he was injured on duty collecting benefits for years.

The indictment says 43-year-old Todd Faustin actively sought out incidents to use force in order to steal money from the workers’ compensation system.

“Todd Faustin lined his own pockets by exploiting one of the most sensitive interactions in our justice system: the use of physical force against prisoners,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.

Faustin was sentenced to 15 months in prison and one-year supervised release after his prison term.

Faustin was also ordered to pay $370,336.79 in restitution and $370,336.79 in forfeiture.
