Family and friends gathered in Yonkers Saturday morning to say their final goodbyes to the FDNY fire chief killed in a massive building explosion this week in the Bronx.
Mourners, firefighters and officials gathered at Annunciation Church on Westchester Avenue to mourn the death of Deputy Chief Michael Fahy.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Cardinal Timothy Dolan also attended the funeral.
The Rockland native was killed after being struck by debris from an explosion Tuesday while responding to a gas leak in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. He was a 17-year veteran who left a lucrative career as a lawyer to follow in his father's footsteps as a firefighter.
The explosion may have been caused by a tampered gas line, and police have arrested two suspects.
The 44-year-old was posthumously promoted to deputy chief. He left behind a wife and three children.
