Embattled Rep. George Santos was sworn in overnight after Republicans selected Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.

Santos has been under fire after the New York Times published a bombshell investigation last month indicating that much of his resume appeared to have been fabricated, including claims that he owned numerous properties, worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and had graduated from Baruch College.

“Now is the time to put political differences aside, stop the finger pointing, and start delivering results. The work of Congress is not about my personal life, this is about delivering results for my constituents, finding bipartisan solutions, and reversing abysmal policies that have caused some of the worst inflation and crime in our nation’s history,” Santos said in a statement.

The Chairman of the Nassau Republican Committee issued a statement said in part, "Mr. Santos deceived the Republican Party with a profusion of lies, fabrications and hurtful comments, which have ensured that he has no place in the Nassau County Republican Committee. He is not welcome at our functions or meetings."

Meanwhile, Santos is facing increased scrutiny over his finances, who he's picked for his staff, money he spent on the campaign trail and a far right gesture he is accused of making on the House floor

While casting his vote for speaker, Santos was seen making an "OK" gesture with his left hand. That gesture is commonly used by the far right and white supremacists.

"I'm not surprised that George Santos, in an attempt to be accepted, in an attempt to reflect the worst elements of our society, would flash a sign like that” says Laura Hardin, the president of Erase Racism in Syosset.
