Some Bronx residents were preparing for the worst Friday, even as forecasters predicted that Hurricane Joaquin wouldn't make landfall.
City officials said it was important to have a "go bag" that has all of the essentials for weathering a storm.
Some necessities include a phone charger, flashlight, batteries, rain jacket, water and non-perishable food. Money and credit cards should also be kept in one place.
Officials said the "go bag," which could be a backpack or any type of bag that is easy to carry, should be kept nearby in the event of an emergency.
