A community is mourning a 9-year-old girl who was found dead in a Brownsville house fire Friday morning.
The FDNY found Payton Thompson on the top floor of 759 Howard Ave after responding to a three-alarm fire at 5:30 a.m.
Investigators say the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
Nearby residents have left toys and flowers on the fence of the building in tribute to the girl.
"My deepest sympathies for the parents. That this little girl is gone so soon, didn't even get to enjoy life. It is very, very sad,” said neighbor Petremilla Wilson.
