As the city works to control the spread of the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s focus continues to go to the hardest hit areas.
Predominantly minority communities continue to lead the way in the number of new cases.
On Tuesday, the governor broke it down by zip codes. Showing the top 10 communities with new coronavirus hospitalizations in the past week.
Five Bronx zip codes and two Brooklyn zip codes are among the hardest hit. Zip code 10453 lands first on the chart, which includes parts of Norwood, Allerton and Olinville, and has seen an average of at least 100 new COVID-19 hospitalizations over the past seven days.
Zip code 11226 in Brooklyn, which covers parts of Flatbush, East Flatbush and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens has had 78 new cases. This data continues to shine a light on how coronavirus is affecting high concentrations of Latino and black New Yorkers in lower income neighborhoods.
The governor promises the state will provide much needed resources to help these communities be ready for the city’s reopening.
For those looking to still get tested, North Central Bronx offers free walk-in testing.
