Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced preliminary results of a COVID-19 antibody study from a sample size of 3,000 New Yorkers in 19 counties who were out in the public.
The study showed that 13.9% of those tested had COVID-19 at one point and had developed antibodies to fight the infection.
The governor said a 13.9% infection rate means that the death rate may be lower than some estimates. He also says the primary results are in-line with a regional approach to opening the state.
Gov. Cuomo also said that the state Department of Health is partnering with Attorney General Letitia James to investigate nursing home violations of executive orders requiring communication with families on COVID-19 test results and deaths.
He also called Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s statement on letting state’s go bankrupt “really one of the dumb ideas of all time.”
"You want to see the market fall through the cellar? Let New York state declare bankruptcy," said Gov. Cuomo.
The governor said 438 New Yorkers died yesterday from COVID-19. He said hospitalizations and intubations remain down and new COVID-19 cases has remained flat.
