Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered an investigation into the Bronx hospital where the man who shot and killed an NYPD officer this week sought psychological treatment just days earlier.
"At my direction, the state Department of Health and Office of Mental Health are launching an immediate review of St. Barnabas Hospital's actions and policies in admitting, treating and discharging this individual," the governor said. "This review will determine if all relevant state laws, regulations and guidelines were followed."
As News 12 has reported, police say Alexander Bonds, 34, shot and killed Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, as she sat in a police vehicle Wednesday morning. The hospital confirmed Bonds was treated, evaluated and released just days before the attack but could not go into specific details.
And his girlfriend reportedly called police and said he was acting erratically just two hours before the shooting.
