7ds agoThe results are in from the primary elections and Gov. Kathy Hochul will face Lee Zeldin in the race for governor in November.
Hochul easily won the Democratic ticket. She received 65% of votes. Gov. Hochul beat Glen Cove's Tom Suozzi and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
Gov.
Hochul is now the first woman to win a primary governor race, and she
says the Democrats are the only party that can push New York forward.
On the other side of the aisle, Long Island's Lee Zeldin took home the GOP ticket.
Zeldin said that COVID-19 policies and bail reform are just some of the policies he plans to reverse if elected.
“It's
important for us to be united going forward, we have to work hard with
one common goal, one common purpose, all in as one team. I've already
had an opportunity to speak to two of my opponents and they're, they're
with the same focus, we aren't opponents anymore, we're all going to be
working together and united," said Zeldin.
If he is elected governor in November, Zeldin would be the first Republican elected to the state's highest office since 2002.
